Overview / Benefits

A PRS provides the precise time and frequency synchronization signals that telecom networks, and the services they transport,  require to work.  When sync fails, the network fails, and customers feel the impact.

A UTC-referenced PRS provides Stratum 1 quality sync.  Deploying more PRS systems gives local and downstream sites improved quality, stability and holdover performance.

• Flattens the synchronization hierarchy, simplifying distribution of clock signals, and reducing the number of network recovery clocks (TSG/SSU) operating in tandem
• Prevents up-stream network clock errors from propagating across the network, reducing alarms at remote offices, and minimizing service impacts
• When problems occur, a remote PRS helps maintain network stability and service performance longer, giving more time to respond and restore service.
• Limits and eliminates "timing islands" and “timing loops” that cause errors, instability and service impairments
• Minimizes network jitter, caused by excessive SONET/SDH pointer adjustments

Products

There are two main categories of PRS products today:

Global Positioning System (GPS) systems require an antenna with a view to the sky.

• TimeSource-3000
• TimeSource-3500

Integrated Platforms also support PRS functionality when equipped with GPS antenna/receiver

•  TimeProvider 5000
•  TimeProvider 1000/1100
• TimeProvider 500

Cesium (atomic clock) PRSs are self-contained and autonomous, where installing a GPS antenna is difficult, due to roof-top access, building ownership, or other constraints

• TimeCesium-4500
• Additional models and options are available to support E1, or other types of outputs.   
• Some Integrated platforms contain basic PRS functionality.
